Thursday-Sunday, July 2 - Sept. 6

The White River Flyer is offering scenic, round-trip train rides along the Connecticut River from White River Jct. to Thetford, VT, with stops at the Montshire. Train travelers will receive $1 off Montshire's admission fee. Train runs Thursdays through Sundays. A complete summer schedule and fares are available at www.montshire.org/train.

Thursday, July 2

10:30 a.m. Secret Life of Ants. Our Leafcutter ant colony is a community of "insect fungus farmers" that grows its own food. Help us provide the colony with its morning supply of leaves and get a close look at these amazing insects.
11:30 a.m. Kitchen Chemistry. Try a selection from our menu of fun, hands-on experiments using a few common household ingredients.
2:30 p.m. Lab Coat Activity. Join us for a special experiment designed especially for those ages 9 and up at our new Science Discovery Lab.

Friday, July 3

11:30 a.m. Young Scientist Activity for Preschoolers. Roll up your sleeves and participate in a hands-on activity led by one of our staff Explainers.
2:30 p.m. Float Your Boat. Design your own boat out of cork or aluminum foil and test it out. It's all about buoyancy! Outside in Science Park (weather permitting).
4:00 p.m. Honeybees. Examine the workings of a honeybee hive and discover more about these amazing social insects.

Saturday, July 4

11:30 a.m. AirPlay. You can't see air, but it's all around us, all the time. Join a staff Explainer and discover what air can do in this Family Science Activity.
1:00 p.m. Lab Coat Activity. Join us for a special experiment designed especially for those ages 9 and up at our new Science Discovery Lab.
2:30 a.m. Optical Illusions. Is seeing believing? Observe and create amazing optical illusions and learn how our eyes and brain work together to make visual sense of our world.

Sunday, July 5

11:30 a.m. Bubbles. Join one of our staff Explainers in the bubble exhibit area and learn how to do some amazing bubble tricks.
1:00 p.m. New England Animals. Discover more about New England animals by examining their skulls, fur, or tracks.
2:30 p.m. Science in the Park! Join us outdoors in Science Park for an experiment or an activity using water, wind, or the sun (weather permitting).



Saturday, July 11

Super Science Days! - Splash! Exploring Water

Spend a day at the Montshire getting wet! Investigations at the Science Discovery Lab and in Science Park will focus on water and other liquids. From Lab Coat Investigations exploring density to Push Cart Science activities making boats, the day will be filled with science of the wet!

Survey of Club-Mosses and Horsetails

Sunday, July 26, 10-3 p.m.

The grounds of the Montshire Museum are home to a surprising diversity of club-mosses and horsetails. The course will cover the identification features used to distinguish most of the species.
