Information about Montshire

• Situated on a unique 110-acre site on the shores of the Connecticut River in the heart of the Upper Valley, complete with miles of nature trails and unparalleled of the surrounding landscape.

• Often cited as a valuable asset that adds to the quality of life in the Upper Valley.

• Last year:

  Every school child who visited the Montshire on a field trip received a free pass to return with a parent or caregiver,

  The Montshire introduced hands-on science programs to over 4,000 students in VT and NH through 45 outreach educational programs,

  Free passes were distributed to over 140 social service agencies and schools to reach families in financial need in VT and NH.

• Revenues from the Montshire Corporate Associates and the Montshire Annual Fund help underwrite:

  Free memberships for families in financial need,

  Scientifica, Montshire's traveling science education program,

  A variety of sponsored traveling and permanent exhibits.

• The Montshire now serves over 160,000 visitors annually.

• The break-even cost for annual membership benefits for the Montshire is $110 per person. Other sources of income, like the Montshire Annual Fund, the Annual Auction, and the Montshire Corporate Associates, keep admission and membership fees as low as possible. One third of total costs to admit a visitor are subsidized by such (non-admission fee) revenue.

• The Montshire receives NO tax subsidy, relying on membership fees and annual giving in order to keep the Museum affordable for everyone.
