Non-Profit Functions in the
Montshire's Community Room

The Museum's spacious Community Room is also available evenings for non-profit organizations that are dedicated to education and community service. Our Community Room regularly serves as a venue for community forums, seminars, events, and lectures that are open to the public and sponsored by not-for-profit partners. Here's a list of guidelines for Community Room use by outside organizations.

Groups of twenty of more can reserve the Community Room on a first-come, first-served basis free of charge for up to three hours (there is a $100/hour fee beyond three hours of use). The room capacity is 150.

The room may be used by the same organization once every two months, and may be booked no earlier than two months in advance of the date requested.

Events can begin as early as 5:30 p.m. For security purposes there is a 9 p.m. curfew for all events, at which time the building and front gate will be locked.

The kitchen adjoining the Community Room may be used to serve beverages and pre-prepared light refreshments, but may not be used for food preparation or potluck meals. Museum-owned cookware and other kitchen supplies are not available for use.

Groups are welcome to use the Museum's chairs (125 stacking chairs), tables, and projection screen. The group will need to supply its own AV or other electronic equipment.

No materials may be nailed or screwed to any permanent surface (floor, walls or ceilings). Tape may not be applied to the ceiling or painted surfaces.

Smoking is not permitted in the Museum. No lighted candles are permitted.

No alcoholic beverages are permitted unless served by a licensed Vermont caterer and with prior approval from the Museum.

Groups are responsible for leaving the Community Room in found condition, including general cleaning and rearranging of furnishings. Materials may not be left overnight in the Museum.

In case of damage, or if the Museum must use custodial services beyond routine cleanup like sweeping and vacuuming, groups will be expected to reimburse the Museum for direct and indirect expenses.

The Montshire Museum does not provide insurance coverage or assume responsibility for the actions of any entity using the Museum. Liability for personal injury or property damage is the responsibility for the organization using the space.

Fundraising or events that require an admission fee are not permitted. Sale of food, books or other items is also not allowed.
